I saw the same frame style and print- or original) from the same artist,in an elegant hotel outside of Barcelona.
How can I find out more.
Also I have what I think is a Leroy Neiman print from the Tour De France in 1962. I actually spoke with his female assistant that was there in that time period and wants me to send the print.
His studio on 5th ave in NY.
To me, it embraces the idea of an art as a trade- not so much a craft because of the practicality factor. Maybe it's a bit like a typewriter repair person who takes them apart and puts them back together for years, arranging the letters to form a new vocabulary that one fully doesn't understand...every now and then a quack brings one in to be worked on. Luckily the repairman is a specialist and knows the machine better than any... only the patron wants him to arrange the keys properly.

Comment on Flicker, Spark, Flame

Was the Phoenix Art Museum only founded in 1960?

I have memories of running around it when I was really young. It couldn't have been later than '62. The museum seemed big and old to me back then.

Names like Phil Curtis, Lew Davis, and Dorothy Fratt are part of my childhood memories. Of course, my mother, Dagne, my father, Clare, and, yes, my stepmother Riva were all part of the mid-century contemporary art scene in Phoenix. (My dad passed away last year. My mother is still with us, and is still painting.)

Sounds like the Modified Arts show will be really interesting.

Comment on Flicker, Spark, Flame

Finally! A contemporary nod to Arizona's earlier artists...who came here before galleries, art supply stores and air conditioning.
